Ellenbrook Probus Club

ECPC (Ellenbrook Combined Probus Club) one of about ten such Probus clubs locally, and one of the hundred in Western Australia.

Probus grew out of Rotary. From small beginnings in the United Kingdom in 1965, it expanded to New Zealand In 1974, and to Australia in 1976. These countries are where it is strongest now. It spread to Canada in 1987, and now is in the USA, Belgium, India, South Africa and other countries: about 23 altogether. There are around 2000 Probus clubs in the UK, and probably approaching half that number in Australia. 100 Clubs in Western Australia

Purpose

The purpose of the Club (ECPC) is ‘to advance intellectual and cultural interests among adult persons who have retired or are semi-retired from their former occupations’.

To do this, ECPC holds ‘regular meetings and arranges activities to provide opportunities for fellowship, the development of acquaintance and social interaction’. In addition, it strives ‘to be seen as a worthwhile organisation by the local community’.

Who may join

Membership of the club is ‘open to retired and semi-retired professional and business people and others from any worthy vocation who appreciate and value opportunities for social contact with others in similar circumstances.’ Membership of ECPC is intended ‘primarily for residents of Ellenbrook and surrounding suburbs and districts’.

Our Meetings

The Club has a monthly meeting, at which there is a guest speaker, who will talk about a subject of general interest. We meet at the Woodlake Community Centre. Click for Map

Club Operations

The members themselves run everything to do with the Club, every member is invited and welcome to stand for election to the Management Committee. However, there is no compulsion to do this or anything else.

About the only expectation is that members show they really want to belong, by attending most of the monthly general meetings.

A main feature of the monthly meeting is a guest speaker, each considered, for the most part, to be very informative and interesting.
